Cooker
 The cooker is the major appliance without which the kitchen will not function. There are various types of cooker, which are briefly discussed on another page.
A free-standing cooker which I’ve had in my kitchen for just over two years is the Stoves Newhome ES 550 DO DLm, which is a 55cm double oven electric cooker with solid plate hob. I’ve found this cooker really easy to use and clean.
The cooker is 550mm wide, 900mm high and 600mm deep. It is, as I said earlier, free standing and is designed to fit in between, or at the end of, standard kitchen units, three finishes are available these being white, black or silver. The finish refers to the oven doors; the hob plate and sides are black.
The hob plate has 4 hobs, 2 rated at 1.84 kW (High speed) and 2 at 0.92 kW. The fascia has controls for the hobs, 2 ovens and what is called a clock/minute minder, which is essentially a digital clock with a timer function. This is very easy to set.
The top oven on this cooker has a variable temperature control, a fixed top heat setting (for browning the top of dishes), a fixed bottom heat setting (to finish cooking pastry bases, pies and similar items). There is also a fixed grill setting. The single shelf has a six position support frame. The grill pan has a reversible trivet and a detachable handle (the oven door should be open when using the grill function).

The energy efficiency of the cooker is increased by making the main oven fan assisted, so some cooking temperatures can be reduced. See the table in the manufacture’s handbook.
In order to keep the cooker’s fascia controls cool during operation of the top oven a cooling fan automatically runs.
The main oven, on this cooker, has a variable temperature control and 2 shelves, each of which can be fitted in any of 6 positions in any of 3 supports.
The cooker has adjustable feet, so it is easy to level flush with the units. The glass doors together with the oven lights allow you to monitor the progress of your cooking easily.
